CATEGORY: INNOVATIONS AND SUSTAINABILITY IN ARCHITECTURE
SPECIAL MENTION> SLOBODNE VEZE/ THE MOTEL TROGIR PROJECT
At the recently concluded ‘Days of Architects 10.0’ in Brela, the Slobodne veze Association, its long-term project for the protection of late modernist architecture MOTEL TROGIR and associates received a special mention in the category ‘Innovations and Sustainability in Architecture’. Additionally, we hosted one of the Dalmatian expertly guided tours organized on that occasion. In Trogir, numerous participants were welcomed by Lujana Paraman (Trogir Town Museum) and Nataša Bodrožić (Slobodne veze) along with architect Luka Cvitan (Prostorne taktike). We are pleased that after thirteen years of work in the field of ‘heritage activism’, we have been recognized by professional architectural organizations in Croatia, this is our second award, and our intention is to continue to be a sort of interface between professionals and the wider public interested in defining and preserving recent cultural heritage. We certainly call on the profession to be even more courageous in protecting the architecture of the second half of the 20th century, which often “does not fit” into the ‘concepts’ and ‘logic’ of new spatial developments that oftentimes do not take into account the public interest. Let us hope that through the united action of all protagonists in the field and the general public, we will succeed in preserving the best achievements from the mid-20th century which make up the identity and indelible fabric of our cities. Congratulations to all nominated and awarded projects and colleagues!
